During 2005, Equity International spearheaded official U.S.-Russian cooperation in the Russian homeland security market. We organized the first U.S-Russia Homeland Security Trade Mission in February, led by Congressman Curt Weldon and hosted by Vladimir Vasiliyev, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security of the Russian Federation. Equity International also co-organized the “Russia-US: Experience in Fighting Terrorism” Conference.
Equity International organized the second U.S.-Homeland Security Trade Mission in October 2005 – our host was the Russian Ministry of the Interior, which controls Russia’s homeland security spending; Russian Antiterrorism Center and Russian Defense Agency for Technical Cooperation.
Opportunities are abundant! According to the Economist Magazine, Russia has budgeted $24 billion for defense and homeland security in 2006, a rise of 22%. Ukraine has tripled its defense budget in 2006 in order to upgrade its military to NATO standards.
