You are invited to an important Washington summit on the world's most important reconstruction initiative - The Iraqi Reconstruction Conference.

With costs ranging up to $60 billion during the next five years, the relief, reconstruction, and development of Iraq is expected to be the largest endeavor since World War II reconstruction. Relief is underway and several major reconstruction projects have already been awarded. And, according to USAID Administrator Andrew S. Natsios, half of the reconstruction money will go to subcontractors, with both U.S. and foreign firms eligible for subcontracts.

The involvement of companies, development organizations, relief groups, and others is critical to the success of Iraqi reconstruction and therefore will play a vital role in facilitating the stability and security of the region. Products, services, systems, and applications are needed in the following categories: food, water, medicine, emergency shelter, hospital equipment, security, oil and gas supplies, environmental clean-up, oil well repairs, oil refinery improvements, water pipe construction, road construction, railroad development, airport and seaport construction, school construction, telecommunications, financial systems, and much more.

The Iraqi Reconstruction Conference will provide the latest information on reconstruction and funding. Conference general sessions and break-out sessions will feature top government officials, corporate executives, and diplomats, speaking on:

  • Humanitarian aid and emergency assistance
  • Funding for Iraqi reconstruction
  • International perspectives on Iraq's reconstruction
  • Reconstruction priorities and programs; heavy infrastructure, communications, medicine, security, education, oil and gas, etc.
  • Contracting and subcontracting opportunities with government agencies and major contractors
  • Special session on contracting opportunities for small and minority-owned businesses

In addition to benefiting from this valuable first-hand information, conference participants will receive:

  • Special Equity International report on reconstruction funding
  • Networking opportunities with top government officials and corporate executives

Background

On May 5, 2003, Equity International convened The Iraqi Reconstruction Conference in Washington, DC. Over 600 top government officials, corporate executives, humanitarian leaders, and diplomats attended. Over 25 countries participated, including 21 embassies and foreign ministries. And over 45 major U.S. and international news media organizations covered this historic gathering. The conference keynote address was delivered by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Lincoln Bloomfield. The opening address was made by Congressman Christopher Shays, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations. And a special address was delivered by His Excellency Karim Kawar, Jordan's Ambassador to the United States.

Due to overwhelming demand, Equity International is convening the next Iraqi Reconstruction Conference on July 1 and 2, 2003.

Since 1996, more than 3,000 major corporations, organizations, agencies, and governments have participated in the reconstruction and development conferences of Equity International. The highly-regarded forums, usually in Washington, have provided corporations and organizations with information on the reconstruction and development programs and contracts of U.S. and multilateral agencies and of foreign governments. Conference participants have also benefited from lucrative networking among a diverse array of corporate and foreign leaders. Conferences have included:

  • The first post-war reconstruction conference on Bosnia and Herzegovina, held in January of 1996.

  • In the aftermath of Hurricane Mitch, the first reconstruction conference on Central America convened in December of 1998.

  • The first post-war reconstruction conference on Kosovo and the surrounding countries, held in June of 1999.

  • Responding to devastating earthquakes in Turkey, a major Turkish reconstruction conference, held in January of 2000.

  • In the wake of deadly floods in Venezuela, the first Venezuelan reconstruction conference convened in March of 2000.

  • Following the election of President Vojislav Kostunica, the first Yugoslavia reconstruction and development conference, held in November of 2000.

  • The first post-war reconstruction conference on Afghanistan convened in March of 2002.

  • The historic Iraqi Reconstruction Conference, May 5, 2003.
